Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) recently awarded six dental assisting graduates and current faculty members its “Alumni Shining Stars” award.

The recipients were Dawn Klostermann, program director of NICC's dental assisting program; Tina Adams, the program's clinical coordinator; and instructors Jayne Anglin; Caitlyn Crawford; Nicole Nuehring; and Nancy Schmidt.

“The history of Northeast Iowa Community College is forever connected to its alumni,” NICC said.

Adams said she enjoys nothing more than watching her students succeed.

“Students come to NICC with many challenges, struggles and hardships,” Adams said. “When they achieve their goals… and get that first real job in dentistry, I know I helped them do that… there is nothing better as a teacher than to see your student succeed.”

Klostermann said NICC’s dental assisting program is regarded as one of Iowa’s finest, and it is the faculty’s responsibility to continue the program's success.

The dental assisting program is based at the college's Peosta campus.
