Bettendorf student Zachary Bunn has been selected by U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack to attend the United States Military Academy.

Bunn will start class next year at West Point. He currently attends Bettendorf High School, where he resides with his parents Lisa and James Bunn.

“Each year, I look forward to nominating outstanding future leaders, like Zachary, to attend our nation’s service academies. His selection is recognition of his hard work and determination,” Loebsack said in a press release. “As a military parent with children who attended a service academy, this selection means a lot to me, as I know it does to Zachary and his family. Every Iowan should be proud of his future service to our nation.”

Every year, the congressman nominates up to five Iowa residents for the academy. The academy makes the final selection.

The service academies allow young men and women the opportunity to gain  education and discipline to prepare them for the military. Students can attend West Point, as well as U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis and Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.
