A high school student at West Delaware High School took part in Northeast Iowa Career Learning Link (CLL) program through Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC), which allowed him to shadow a professional in the career field he hopes to pursue.

Ethan Uhrig shadowed diesel mechanics, welding professionals and auto mechanics. The experience was arranged by his career coach, Holly Maurer.

The program was created by NICC and allows students one-on-one counseling sessions with individuals in high ranking positions.

Uhrig has shadowed at McDowell Repair, Henderson Products and Runde Auto Group. He most recently found part-time work at McDowell Repair because of the job shadowing opportunity.

“I enjoyed my time with Ethan and learned as much from him as he did from me,” Richard McDowell, owner of McDowell Repair, said in a press release.

CLL and NICC think allowing students to experience potential careers before graduating allows them to make smart decisions.
