The Hilton Des Moines Downtown hotel recently held its official topping out celebration as its opening later this year approaches.
The Hilton is a 330-room hotel. Exterior finishes are now complete and interior changes will be completed soon, according to a press release.
“It’s always a significant milestone when we top out the structure of a project and start diverting manpower inside the building,” Mike Tousley, The Weitz Co. executive vice president and general manager, said in a press release. “It represents the completion of a critical phase of the overall construction and we like to celebrate it with our employees, customers and business partners as often as possible.”
A beam signing took place at the construction site during the celebration. Officials from the IEC Hotel Corp., Polk County Board of Supervisors and the city of Des Moines also participated in the celebration.
“This project’s ceremony has a special meaning because of how long this community has been working to bring this convention hotel to Des Moines, and it is another example of the ability of several public and private partners to collaborate on an important opportunity for our community,” Gerard D. Neugent, president of the IEC Hotel board of directors, said.
The Hilton Des Moines is near the Wells Fargo Arena and the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center.
