Area residents were recognized with the 2017 Iowa Character Award from The Ray Center this month.

The Aaron Eilerts Community Service Award was given to Des Moines resident Jackson Fink, according to a press release. Other winners include Jack Eherenman and Jeevanot “JJ” Kapur, Citizen of Character winners; Dress for Success and Animal Lifeline of Iowa, Business and Organization of Character Winners; and Register Media, Partner of the Year Winner.

The Ray Center recognizes and honors Iowans who dedicate themselves to being good citizens, according to the release. The center judges the nominations by six characteristics—trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and good citizenship.

Over 100 Iowa residents have received the honor since 2005, the release said.

The honors will be given out during the annual Iowa Character Awards dinner July 21 in Altoona.
