In an effort to prevent disasters, the city of Waukee is taking part in the Dallas County Hazard Mitigation planning process.

The process involves planning, prevention and mitigating several types of disasters, and a planning committee has been set to work on this task, according to a press release.

The committee is developing an update to the comprehensive Dallas County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan with a strategy to reduce the vulnerability of people and property in the planning area and remain eligible for mitigation funding programs from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the release said.

Every city in Dallas County and every sector is represented in the committee. Dallas County residents are urged to provide information on the hazards that affect their community and suggest opinions on the types of activities that should be considered. The information brought forward will then be presented to the committee.
