Des Moines Parks and Recreation seeks volunteers for documentation project

Volunteer are needed for the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project, hosted by Des Moines Parks and Recreation.

Volunteers are responsible for keeping track of bicyclists and pedestrians and handing out survey cards, according to an announcement. Volunteer times are regulated to two-hour increments.

Locations include trails, bike lanes and sidewalks. All volunteers will receive a 15-minute training session beforehand. Dates for this year’s project include Sept. 13 and Sept. 16.

In exchange for their service, volunteers will be given a choice of a free bike rental at Gray’s Lake Park or free registration for Des Moines Mayor’s Annual Ride.

The project provides data that allows the city to obtain grants and helps evaluate usage of city trails and facilities and helps identify locations for future amenities.
