UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital, a private, nonprofit community regional health care facility, recently received an Award of Merit from the Masonry Institute of Iowa’s Architectural Design Awards for its Grandview Expansion Project.

Finley was one of eight recipients that was narrowed down after 21 entries.

Finley’s Grandview Expansion Project added a new emergency department, surgery suite and comprehensive heart center. Existing facilities focus on cancer care, heart care, birth care, emergency care, surgery services, and wound and hyperbaric services.

Invision Architecture of Waterloo designed the project the submitted it for the award. The expansion was done in brick and cast stone to blend with the existing facility. The materials were sourced from the Midwest and installed by a local mason, Cummer Masonry. Conlon Construction was the project manager.

The panel of judges, based outside Iowa, was made up of architects who judged the projects on criteria such as creative masonry; structural and architectural design; installation details; technical innovations; and environmental suitability of design.
