Northeast Iowa Community College issued the following announcement on Feb. 8.
Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) held a Health Career Event at the Town Clock Business Center in Dubuque on Monday, Feb. 12, at 6 p.m.
In addition to learning about local employment and training options, in-demand healthcare careers and earning potential, attendees have the opportunity to learn more about some of the career pathway certificates that the College offers, which are designed to provide the necessary hands-on training and job skills in order to qualify for entry-level employment opportunities.
The following programs in the health career pathway certificate will be explored:
Certified Nurse Aide (CNA): This certificate prepares students for employment as a nurse aide and fulfills the prerequisite for admission into the Northeast Iowa Community College nursing program.
Health Support Professional: Students receive an introduction to some key skills needed to be a Direct Care Worker.
Phlebotomy Technician: Students in the program receive training on collecting, transporting and processing blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis.
Pharmacy Technician: This comprehensive 50-hour program and clinical externship prepares students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting.
