Graduates earn 2,722 degrees from the University of Northern Iowa


About 19.5 percent of the 2,722 degrees and certificates handed out by the University of Northern Iowa in 2017-18 were to students in education programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Falls conferred 368 bachelor's degrees and 148 master's degrees in education programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in elementary education and teaching. Data shows the school gave out 258 bachelor's degrees in elementary education and teaching, followed by 100 bachelor's degrees in accounting and 95 bachelor's degrees in general psychology.

The university enrolled 11,861 students for 2017-18, including 9,961 in undergraduate programs and 1,900 in graduate programs.
